The Beneficiary

Cathedral Giving By Design is an annual philanthropic community outreach project sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women of the Cathedral of St. Philip. Each year, a different non-profit in the Atlanta community is selected as the beneficiary.

All net proceeds from Cathedral Giving By Design go directly to the beneficiary. More than just fundraising, the event increases community awareness about the beneficiary and expands their base of supporters and advocates.

HISTORY

The seeds of Global Village Project were planted in 2007 by a group of volunteers who came together to support and tutor five teenaged Afghan girls in Clarkston, Georgia.
By 2009, they’d founded Global Village Project, the only school in the country dedicated to meeting the educational needs of refugee young women and preparing them for high school.

PURPOSE

As a nonprofit middle school,

Global Village Project's  full-day, tuition-free academic program serves refugee girls from all over the world.

The GVP approach is designed not just to include refugee young women, but to center their voices, backgrounds, and experiences in everything we do.

MISSION

GVP students arrive in the U.S. with limited literacy, minimal English proficiency, and unique needs. GVP bridges these gaps through an intensive, holistic academic model grounded in English language and literacy instruction, STEAM learning, wellness and social-emotional support, and long-term mentorship. Students are nurtured in a strengths-based community where they rebuild confidence, identity, and belonging.

$5,000 Build Her a Home for Stories

$5,000– Build Her a Home for Stories

(Fund Library Bookshelves, Books, and Reading Chairs)

Books and reading chairs open doors to language, imagination, possibility, and comfort. A welcoming library invites students to explore new worlds and strengthen their literacy skills.

A $5,000 gift funds bookshelves for the GVP library, filled with new books, and reading chairs, creating space for stories that reflect our students’ identities and expand their horizons. Each filled shelf helps build a library where girls can read, learn, and dream.

$2,500 Nourish Her Body and Mind

$2,500 – Nourish Her Body and Mind

(Fund One Week of Student Lunches)

Learning begins with nourishment. When students are well-fed, they are better able to focus, participate, and thrive academically and emotionally.

A gift of $2,500 provides one full week of healthy lunches for all GVP students, ensuring they have the fuel they need to learn, grow, and dream. This support removes barriers to learning and reinforces that every student is worthy of care and consistency.

$1,000 Create Space for Her Belongings

$1,000 – Create Space for Her Belongings

(Fund Student Storage Lockers in the Cafeteria)

For many GVP students, school is the most stable place in their day. Having a safe, personal space to store belongings provides dignity, security, and a sense of ownership.

A $1,000 gift funds one set of student storage lockers in the cafeteria, giving students a reliable place for books, supplies, and personal items. These lockers help create order, independence, and calm during a busy school day, supporting students as they navigate a new school environment.

$500 Gather Her Community

$500 – Gather Her Community

(Fund Cafeteria Tables and Chairs)

The cafeteria is more than a place to eat. It is where friendships form, languages are shared, and community is built.

A $500 gift funds one cafeteria table with chairs, creating a welcoming space for students to connect, rest, and refuel together. These tables foster belonging and conversation, helping students feel at home in their new school.

$250 Foster Her Artistic Expression

$250 - Foster Her Artistic Expression

(Fund our Arts Program Supplies)

Long before English language learners find the language to communicate and express themselves, they can do that through music, performance, and visual arts. Until they find the words in English, pictures, dance, and musical instruments often take the place of the missing words that GVP students are seeking to interact with each other.

$100 Make Her Space Feel Like Home

$100 – Make Her Space Feel Like Home

(Fund Decorative, Welcoming Spaces)

A school should feel safe, bright, and full of possibility the moment a student walks through the door. For refugee girls who have experienced immense change, the environment around them matters deeply. Soft furniture, colorful rugs, and inspiring wall decorations like maps and classroom visuals help transform classrooms and common spaces into places of comfort, curiosity, and belonging.

A gift of $100 supports the finishing touches that make our school feel like home. From area rugs to educational wall art that reflects the world and our students’ place in it, your support helps create spaces where girls feel welcomed, inspired, and ready to learn every day.
